Information Studies is a diverse, fascinating and expanding field. As the information sector of society evolves, so will the use of technological systems to acquire, store, organize, and deliver information. How do human beings fit into this new world?
The field of Information Studies is recognized as the leader in addressing the information needs of human beings. Information professionals are engaged in helping people locate and obtain information they need for decision-making at work and at home. The information professional's critical function is to fit information systems to human needs, rather than requiring the human needs to be adapted to information systems.
Graduates in the field are in demand and are employed by corporations, non-profit organizations and educational institutions as educators, information archCI Help Deskts, information systems managers, Web developers, information scientists, librarians, network administrators, systems analysts and computer user support specialists.
We see two general career areas rapidly evolving in the field of information studies. They will employ a wide variety of Information Technology (I.T.) Specialists and Dynamic Librarians. For a more detailed description of these career opportunities, please see: Digital Age Information Professions.
