Distinguished Alumni Award Nomination Information

I. Guidelines
  1. Nominators. Anyone may nominate candidates. Candidates may also nominate themselves for the award.
  2. Documentation. Nominators should consider the criteria (below) and provide the selection committee with supportive documentation about their candidate(s). The documentation may include a vita, citations to published works, and letters of recommendation. This information need not come prepared as one packet but all materials must be received at the college by September 5, 2008.
  3. Recipient Availability. The recipient of the award must be available to accept it in person during the College's Annual Convocation & Homecoming Ceremony in Tallahassee on November 15, 2008.
  4. Nomination Form. The nomination form is available online or in PDF format. All forms must be signed and include the address and phone number of the nominator.

II. Criteria
  1. Nominee Contributions. Nominees must be active professionals with an undergraduate or graduate degree earned from the College. Indications of significant contribution may include:

    • a distinguished publication and research award
    • positions of responsibility in professional associations
    • awards and recognition by other professional organizations
    • national or international activities and recognition
    • responsibility for innovative programs with far-reaching impact on the profession
    • demonstration of concern for library education and in bridging the gap between education and practice
    • service to the Florida State University College of Information

    The selection committee, as it deems appropriate, will be free to consider other documented indications of high professional standards and professional contributions.

  2. Recipient Availability. The candidate must be able to accept the award in person. The Alumni Association will offer as much financial support as it can, but the candidate must be available, able to assume any expenses related to travel, and be prepared to present an address at the annual homecoming awards reception.
  3. Ineligibility. Current employees of the College of Information, current members of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, or members of the Distinguished Alumni Award Selection Committee, or their immediate relatives, are not eligible.
