DISASTER PLAN (PH, JC)
Notes are being reviewed and ultimately turned over to Dr. De Pew. The group is still investigating the particulars. There was discussion about how to handle backing up computer files resulted in suggestion to make use of the Zip Drive. It was noted all SIS computers do not have a Zip Drive.
PHONE TREE (PH)
The work order was submitted last Thursday (October 21). There is an estimated 2-week turn around time. The request was for removal of phone trees for numbers 644-5735, 644-5738, and 644-5777. (Note: 644-5775 will remain the same). In result, all incoming SIS calls will go to either student services or administrative services and after-hour calls will go directly into the voicemail system. The current phone tree is still up and running.
SUMMERS LOUNGE (PH)
The Dean wants this to happen before Summer's retirement; therefore, the projected deadline for completion is November 29. A work-order will be sent to remove the fridge and microwave (per PH/CM). Library GAs will remove (or consolidate) the library items contained in room. There is no current knowledge of any financial commitments to this project (per DJ).
Discussion continued regarding use of the lounge by library GAs/student workers for the minimal purpose of food storage/heating. It was noted in discussion that the banning of the lounge does not violate any work/employee regulations (per KB). There was a suggestion to "wait it out and see what happens." Relative to this discussion, there was a decision made to acquire (purchase/solicitation/donation) of two small fridges and a microwave for GA use. In the meantime, students are not permitted in the oung but TAs will continue to have access.
There was additional discussion and inquiry about the ban violating employee regulations; the failed plan to divide a portion of the doctoral office; possibilities to put a microwave and the old doctoral office fridge downstairs; donation vs. purchasing of two small fridges and small microwaves for use.
HALL/WALL OF FAME (DJ)
The purpose of this Hall/Wall of Fame is to display the accolades (e.g., plaques, awards) of SIS students, staff and faculty [per the Dean's request]. It was noted this request was discussed and resolved at the last Student Services Team meeting (per PH). The result being the use of the glass case located on the 2nd floor foyer. It was noted PH has already placed some SOLTIS plaques.
VACATION CALENDER (DJ)
The concern is the vacation calender is not effectively used by staff. Therefore, how do we communicate the importance of use to the staff. It was noted the transition to Netscape is complete, hence there is availability. The decision made was to communicate availability of the product as well as instruction (via GAs).
COMPUTER GENERATE X-MAS CARD (DJ)
The Dean expressed interest in SIS x-mas cards. The audience is not known; however, it is assumed the audience are SIS's professonal contacts (the example given: the OCLC President).
The suggestion was to solicit services of the lab GAs or undergraduate student; however, the decision was to hold a contest for the x-mas card contest -- electronic and paper. The award will be a $25 FSU Bookstore gift certificate and a T-shirt. The contest will be judged by the SIS Deans. [JC will develop further]. It was noted the contest needs to take place by Thanksgiving and should be open to all students.
X-MAS PARTY (DJ)
Last year, the SIS staff x-mas party was held at the Olive Garden. The team was encouraged to begin thinking of ideas. KB, DL will follow-up with the dean. There is a tentative idea to possibly have this event benefit a charitable organziation. [JC will explore further].
AST STUDENT REPRESENTATION (CM)
CM volunteered to serve as student representative for AST. To date, no volunteers have come forward. There was inquiry/discussion as to why students are not participating. It was suggested students were perhaps overwhelmed with work and assignments or not intrigued by the benefits of participation.
