  6. New Business:
    A. Preliminary exam date for Spring 2000: set for the week of April 3.

    B. The Portfolio Form: The format of the form was discussed, suggesting it should be compatible with other forms found on-line or in paper mechanisms. McClure suggested that items 1-6 should be headings for materials required of the students. The APC chair may have the option of asking for additional items of performance that will be kept and maintained by each doctoral student through the defense of his or her proposal. The APC chairs may determine, along with the student, the time designated for the submission of the portfolio but must be done each spring until passage of the proposal defense. The portfolio should consist of all papers per course; however, it will be noted that first year doctoral students will have limited items to submit. Forms indicating the completion of the evaluation of each student should be given to the director of the doctoral program by the end of the spring semester. Also discussed was appropriate action to be taken in the event a student receives an unsatisfactory of the portfolio. Action on this issue was deferred to the next meeting. Chatman moved to accept the form. Motion carried. McClure commended the director for his work on the form.

    C. The Research Collaboration Syllabus: Gross and Yu volunteered to work on the construction of the syllabus and prepare the forms. McClure asked that the language on the forms be worked out before the beginning of the semester to give the students ample time to apply.

    E. Clarification of Ph.D. Guidelines: Gluck will be responsible to proof and edit the guidelines that are posted on-line. No substantial policies will be changed. Various appendices will be added such as the portfolio forms, sample interview schedule and a checklist of all forms. Bonnice asked if the guidelines be available in only PDF files rather than both PDF and Html.

    F. Update on Research Collaboration Tracking system: Bonnice asked that it be included in the orientation for the new students.

Separate Item: McClure said the Institute will be responsible for the first presentation for the Spring semester of the research brown bag activities.

    G. New Preliminary Exam format: Team members were reminded that students entering the program under the new guidelines will come under different preliminary examination schedules.
