1. Research Collaboration Status and Recommendations -- Conaway submitted the Ph.D. Team B report, which made six recommendations plus four suggestions for implementation. Gluck requested that these be put in the form of a motion for the next meeting. He also asked that a tracking system be devised for keeping this effort moving along until completed.
2. Curriculum and Seminars -- Tabled until next meeting. Gross reported that more work needs to be done before a motion can be drafted. A few points were briefly discussed, including:
a. Should students perhaps be encouraged to fill their stats requirement at FSU
in a known quality class?
b. Should Research Methods then be offered in the Spring?
c. Would seminars be better attended by doctoral students if they were more pointedly advised to do so?
Gluck, Gross and Chatman will arrange a meeting.
1. Recruitment Strategy and Plan -- No response has been received yet to the new Chronicle space ad. Is this the best market for attracting doctoral students? Recruitment mechanisms need to be explored. Might publicizing funding opportunities attract new students to the College and keep them here? Gluck will work with McClure to draft a plan to stimulate future discussion and encourage team commitment to a recruitment strategy.
2. Teaching Practicum -- Should changes be made in the current 2-credit course? Some students found it awkward to fit this into a 9- or 12-credit semester plan. Should a 3-credit course be created? Would this be confused with the seminars? Should the Teaching Practicum be handled by PIE instead? For future discussion.
.
1. Greg Reid, representative for second year doctoral students, will not be able to attend future meetings due to his living in Orlando. The search is on for a new representative.
2. Small grants for research (up to $500) are available to doctoral students. A flyer is posted on the doctoral lab door, or see Gluck for details.
