M. Genz led the discussion on the Information Resources and Services concentration. It was agreed to combined the four courses under Model: 1 Discipline Based, into two main courses. The LIS 5610 and LIS 5620 will be combined into one course. The LIS 5624 and LIS 5630 will be combined into a single course. Two courses listed under Group 2 were moved to Group 1: LIS 5362 and LIS 5484. Under Group 3, Competitive Intelligence and Digital Libraries are two courses that can be taught under special topics. Developing and Marketing Information Products and Services should be offered as a regular course. A scope statement for this concentration is needed.
E. Dresang discussed the Youth Services concentration.It was agreed that the required course would be LIS 5524: Instructional Role of the Information Specialist. LIS 5511 and LIS 5512 would be required/recommended courses under the School Media and for other Youth Services category.
M. Heo discussed the Information Technology concentration. After a long discussion it was decided to tabled this issue for the next meeting.
Decisions: All the concentrations need a scope statement.
The team will try to agree on the required courses and then complete
the concentrations.
The team will require 6 courses in each concentration including the
required course.
The required course will be introductory rather than core knowledge.
Next meeting is Feb. 20 from 3:30pm-5:30pm, Gregory conference room.
