I. Difference between Program Teams and Service Teams
A. Program teams set policy
B. Service teams examine procedures
II. Changes in Undergraduate Advising
A. Need to arrange for additional training - faculty and peer advisors
B. Need to begin to make transition to new undergraduate advisor
C. Beth Deeb - change in her position; she will be in undergrad advising 25%, rest of her appointment is for the Institute
D. Dan Phelps - possible change in his position to a technical position in Technical Services
E. Undgrad advising is still a program assistant position until a university decision has been reached about the professional advising pool.
- Kathy Burnett will contact Dean Radke about the options
F. Undergraduate numbers for Fall Semester
- 350 on campus undergraduates (50-75 new students)
- 2+2 will admit 100 students maximum (102 have applied to date)
G. Still working on establishing the undergraduate program as limited access
- checking on the BOR guidelines for this
H. Pre-requisites for undergraduates
- must have a "C-" or better
- need to draft a sheet of pre-reqs that can be used for advising
- suggestion to use bio sciences as a model
III. Assessment Tool Needed for the Advising Process
A. Need feedback from the students
B. Look for tools from other units to adopt and adapt
C. Work with the Dean's PhD research class to develop a tool?
- need to look at the quality of advisement
- need to look at measuring/tracking student outcomes
IV. Graduate Assistant to the Teams
A. Student Responsibilities
- Take minutes & post to intranet
- Work on special projects
- Serve as an aide to the committee
- Assigned to the team for 5 hours per week
- Will need access to the intranet and calendar
V. Self-Assessment on Computer Literacy
A. Undergraduates need access to the self-assessment tool
- Check with Janet and Laurie on this
- Can we obtain a copy of the exemption test for computer literacy?
VI. Graduate Recruitment
A. We met and exceeded the projected number for this Fall
- 230 admitted
- 30 pending
- 20 doctoral
- 29 specialist
B. Will we need to have a spring LIS 5230 class?
VII. Master's/Specialist Programs
A. Need to have the Master's/Specialist Program team examine the separation of the two advanced programs to distinguish between the Specialist and the PhD
B. Need to look at "tandem" programs
- Look around for other certificate programs similar to the combined specialist in library studies/museum studies
- Project for the student assistant to investigate
VIII. Miscellaneous
A. Need to look at and monitor staffing, especially administrative and student services desks
B. Need to look at assigning student boxes at the SS desk
C. Need to investigate the handing back of student papers via their student boxes
D. Placing an In/Out board in Student Services area
- provide Pam Hurston with a copy of your fall schedule
