Besant reported she had called a meeting of the Scholarship Sub-team to prepare a draft of the scholarship selection process.
Strategic Plan: Chavez-Hernandez reported that she had met with the deans to discuss what was expected from Student Services regarding the report for the Strategic Plan. The report is due to the deans on April 1. Chavez-Hernandez has also met with Laurie Bonnici and Aimee Reist to create one master survey that would be used. It was indicated that the survey should include information on student demographics, instructions, and a statement on the purpose of the survey. Bonnici will obtain clearance for the survey with the Human Subjects Board. The survey must be designed so Web Development can adapt it for electronic use. The survey will be submitted to the deans on Feb 8 and will be available online for students from Feb 15-March 1. In the Strategic Planning Report we should indicate what changes are taking place in the environment and how those changes will impact student services. Chavez-Hernandez reported that the project is very complicated and will require a systematic method for scanning the environment. Some strategies discussed and assigned were: (1) searching through literature on higher education and student affairs for innovations in student services (Latham and Chavez-Hernandez), (2) looking through other school's websites to see how other universities operate student services (Fontaine and Thorp), and (3) scanning the internal environment here at FSU (Houff). Besant will interview our Student Services staff for information on the current condition is Student Services. All findings will be documented.
Due to the complexity of the report, Chavez-Hernandez suggested that the team meet every other week. The next meeting is scheduled for Feb 27 at 3:00 pm.
