Marcella reported that the faculty continues to support an online orientation but that it no longer be held during drop/add. It was decided that the orientation be held earlier before classes begin and that students be given advance notice of orientation dates. The orientation sub-team will meet to discuss these issues. Brian suggested that modules be created to allow distance students to autonomously prepare for their technological needs for doing the online program. He also suggested using the online orientation as a marketing tool. Don reported that candidates for the Summers and Sherron awards had been selected and will be submitting essays to be reviewed. Anthony supported the idea of a GA award for one GA from Tech Services, Goldstein Library, and Student Services. The Team discussed ways to increase student attendance at Convocation on Nov. 16 by posting fliers, having a book display in Goldstein, providing food and offering extra credit to students in their classes. Don reported that peer advising money will again be made available and transferred to the School's budget in 3-4 weeks. Don and Susanne will meet with Nicole Raimondi in the School of Social Work to develop a practicum course for Student Services. Susanne expressed a concern for students who seem unprepared for distance learning and finding ways to evaluate the needs of those students.
