1- Name change approved for the Technical & Professional Communication Course to
"Technical Communications for Information Services".
2- Policy for outside courses for elective credit.
Discussion on this subject to be continued on future meetings.
3- Policy on Late Drops.
For future review of this subject, Mr. T. Wagar will gather policies and guideline examples from other FSU departments. This will be presented on a future meeting.
4- Policy on Reinstatements.
Dr. D. Latham will gather related documentation on reinstatements to present and consider on a future meeting.
1- Update on overlapping classes.
Mr. M. Karl reported on his research on this matter. He reviewed the syllabus of 4 undergraduate courses thinking that some overlap occurred between them, but after the review, he concluded that any overlap seem to have changed and at this time overlap is not a problem on undergraduate courses.
1- Update on Limited Access.
The presented statistics and profile of students that would be affected by such policy indicate an unfavorable background for its implementation. A preferable alternative was recommended at the faculty retreat. It includes:
· Accept all students who apply to the program.
· Enforce prerequisites before they come to the SIS.
· Support small size classes.
· Raise expectations and standards in the first few courses students take (make more strict).
· Raise the actual grading system.
· Implement a tutoring program to support courses.
· Implement more professional advising for undergraduate students.
Issues for next meeting and/or semester:
1. Scheduling
2. Publicity & outreach
3. Policy for outside courses as elective credit
4. Policy for Late Drops
5. Policy on Reinstatements
6. SIS building expansion
