Florida Library Association ( FLA ) Scholarship Program
The FLA Scholarship program is designed to encourage students pursuing Master's Degrees in Library and Information Studies at FSU and USF. Three scholarships are awarded annually, with one to a student at FSU and USF and one to a minority student. Applicants must be a resident of Florida ; have some experience in a Florida library; be admitted to an FSU or USF library/information studies graduate degree program; and commit to working in a Florida library for a minimum of one year after graduation. Florida Health Sciences Library Association – FHSLA Scholarships
To encourage the entrance of new librarians into the field of medical librarianship, the Florida Health Sciences Library Association (FHSLA) will award up to two (2) student scholarships to its annual meeting. Scholarship winner(s) will receive free membership to FHSLA. Students may be asked to help at the registration desk or in some other way at the annual meeting. For more information visit:

Georgia Library Association - Hubbard Scholarship
The Georgia Library Association offers the Hubbard Scholarship annually to recruit excellent librarians for Georgia and provide financial assistance toward completing a degree in library science. The Hubbard Scholarship is awarded to a student who is either completing the senior year in an accredited college or university or is a graduate of such an institution, and who has been accepted as a student in a degree program accredited by the American Library Association. The student must be ready to begin the program of study not later than the Fall term of the year in which the scholarship is awarded and must indicate an intention to complete the degree requirements within three years. The student must also agree to work for one year following graduation from library school in a library or library-related capacity in Georgia or agree to pay back a prorated amount of the award plus interest. Virginia Library Association – VLA Scholarships
The VLA awards three scholarships annually to students pursuing a Master's degree in Library Science at ALA accredited schools. Applicants must currently be a legal resident of Virginia , with a minimum residence of two years; hold an undergraduate degree; and have been accepted by an American Library Association accredited library school, or have a pending application for admission. Major factors to be considered in making the awards are: evidence of a commitment to a career in librarianship in Virginia ; financial need; leadership qualities; academic excellence; and membership in the Virginia Library Association. AALL Scholarships
Seven types of scholarships to assist law librarians and future law librarians with educational expenses. Please note that there are scholarships for degree programs as well as for continuing education.

American Library Association (ALA)

The American Library Association (ALA) is committed to promoting and advancing the librarian profession. To demonstrate this commitment, the ALA and its units provide numerous scholarships annually for study toward a Master's degree in library and information studies from an ALA accredited program, or for a Master's degree in a school library media program that meets the ALA curriculum guidelines for a college or university unit that is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

The scholarship process is open annually from September - March. Applications are available on-line during that time period. Instructions and reference forms remain available year round and may be printed at any time. Three major factors are considered in awarding these scholarships:

Rozkuszka Scholarship
The W. David Rozkuszka Scholarship provides financial assistance to an individual who is currently working with government documents in a library and is trying to complete a masters degree in library science. The award winner receives $3,000.

MLA offers a variety of scholarships and grants to assist qualified students in graduate library science programs and to enable practicing health sciences librarians to take advantage of opportunities for continuing professional development.     Medical Library Association (MLA) Scholarship
    A scholarship for up to $5,000 will be granted to a student who is entering an ALA-accredited library school or who has yet to finish at least one half of the program's requirements in the year following the granting of the scholarship.

    MLA Research, Development and Demonstration Project Grants
    The purpose of this grant is to provide support for research, development, or demonstration projects that will help to promote excellence in the field of health sciences librarianship and information sciences. Grants range from $100 to $1000. Grants will not be given to support an activity that is operational in nature or has only local usefulness. More than one award may be granted in a year.

    Thomson Scientific/MLA Doctoral Fellowship
    Thomson Scientific sponsors a fellowship in the amount of $2,000 to foster and encourage superior students to conduct doctoral work in an area of health sciences librarianship or information sciences and to provide support to individuals who have been admitted to candidacy. The award supports research or travel applicable to the candidate's study within a twelve-month period. The award is given every other year and may not be used for tuition.

North American Serials Interest Group (NASIG)

    NASIG Student Grant
    Enables students to attend the annual NASIG conference which includes the presentation of papers, panels, workshops, tours, and social events. Students who are currently enrolled at the graduate level in any ALA-accredited library school, who do not already have an ALA accredited degree, and who have expressed an interest in some aspect of serials work are eligible to apply. Students do not have to be NASIG members to apply and they must not have earned their degrees earlier than the end of the school year prior to the NASIG conference.

Special Libraries Association ( SLA )

The SLA Scholarships are granted for graduate study in librarianship leading to a master's degree, a Ph.D., or for post-M.L.S. study at a recognized school of library or information science. Up to five $6,000 SLA scholarships are available each year for students who have demonstrated their ability and desire to contribute to the Special Librarian field.

    SLA Scholarship
    Each year up to three $6,000 scholarships will be granted only for graduate study in librarianship leading to a master's degree at a recognized school of library or information science.

    Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) Scholarship
    The ISI Scholarship will be granted only for beginning graduate study leading to a Ph.D. from a recognized program in library science, information science or related fields of study. One $1,000 ISI scholarship is available each year.

    Plenum Scholarship
    One $1,000 Plenum scholarship is available each year for graduate study leading to a Ph.D. from a recognized program in library science, information science or related fields of study.

    Mary Adeline Connor Professional Development Scholarship
    The Mary Adeline Connor Professional Development Scholarship will be granted for post-M.L.S. certificate or degree programs in any subject area, technological skill, or managerial expertise relevant to applicant's career needs and goals in special librarianship. One or more scholarships, not to exceed $6,000 in total, are available each year.

    Library School Scholarship
    Provides a scholarship award for American Indian/Alaskan Native students who are enrolled in or have been accepted to and will enroll in a master's degree program in an American Library Association accredited library school. The scholarship is designed to encourage the entry of qualified American Indians and Alaskan Natives into the library profession.

ALA Spectrum Initiative Scholarship The Spectrum Initiative is the American Library Association's national diversity and recruitment effort designed to address the specific issue of underrepresentation of critically needed ethnic librarians within the profession while serving as a model for ways to bring attention to larger diversity issues in the future. Its major drive is to recruit applicants and award scholarships to American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino or Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander students for graduate programs in library and information science. The ALA Spectrum Scholarship provides $5,000 scholarships to a number of eligible recipients each year.

ALA Black Caucus
The E. J. Josey Scholarships are two (2) unrestricted grants of $2,000 to be awarded annually to African American students enrolled in or accepted by ALA accredited programs. Applicants are judged on the basis of application essays of 1,000 to 1,200 words discussing issues, problems, or challenges facing library service to minority populations, such as African Americans, and other supporting documentation submitted for review by the scholarship committee.

Association of Jewish Libraries (AJL)

AJL Scholarship

In order to encourage students to train for and enter the field of Judaica librarianship, the Association of Jewish Libraries awards a scholarship of $500 to a student attending or planning to attend a graduate school of library and information science. Prospective candidates should have an interest in, and demonstrate a potential for, pursuing a career in Judaica librarianship.

The Doris Orenstein Memorial Scholarship for New Members (AJL)
New Members of AJL are eligible for a subsidy for travel to the AJL Convention from the Doris Orenstein Memorial Fund. Write a letter of 500 words or fewer telling us why you would like to attend AJL Convention 2000. State how long you have been employed in a Judaica library, what part of the cost your institution will pay, your educational background, whether or not there is an AJL chapter in your area, and whether or not you participate in your Chapter. Rosalie Katchen Memorial Award
In order to support catalogers and library school students seeking to further their knowledge of Hebraica/Judaica cataloging and/or participate in and contribute Hebraica records to national cooperative cataloging programs, a monetary award is made to a qualified applicant. The amount of money awarded varies from year to year, depending on resources available in this fund.

ARL offers a $10,000 stipend, mentoring, and leadership development through the ARL Initiative to Recruit a Diverse Workforce program. The program is designed to attract students from underrepresented racial or ethnic groups to careers in academic and research libraries. Applicants must be a member of one of these racial or ethnic groups as categorized in the U.S. Census: American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, Hispanic or Latino.

    C. C. Seetoo CALA Conference Travel Scholarship
    Chinese American Libraries Association awards $500 to a student to attend the annual ALA conference and CALA program. Students of Chinese heritage who are currently enrolled in ALA-accredited master's programs or in doctoral programs in Library and Information Science in degree-granting institutions in North America are encouraged to apply.

    Huang Tso-ping and Wu Yao-yu Scholarship
    Awards $200 each year to a Library School student of Chinese heritage who is currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited master's or doctoral program of Library and Information Science in an institution of higher learning in the United States.

    Sheila Suen Lai Scholarship
    $500 each year to a full-time student of Chinese heritage who is currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited master's or doctoral program of library and information Science at a higher education institution in North America. The Scholarship is designed to encourage the professional and leadership development in Chinese American librarianship.

DATATEL Scholars Foundation
For Vietnam War veterans; spouses and children of Vietnam War veterans; or refugees from Vietnam , Laos , or Cambodia from 1964-1975. Deeb Scholarship

REFORMA Scholarship Program – Bilingual and Bicultural: Latino and Spanish

Through the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish Speaking, REFORMA scholarships have supported the active recruitment of bilingual and bicultural librarians to meet the information needs of the Spanish-speaking community. The REFORMA Scholarship provides financial assistance to encourage and enable Spanish speakers to pursue or advance a career in library and information science. REFORMA awards in the amount of $2,000 are made annually for graduate study in the field of Library and Information Science .

Special Libraries Association (SLA)

    Affirmative Action Scholarship
    SLA awards one $6,000 grant annually only for graduate study in librarianship leading to a master's degree at a recognized school of library or information science. Applicants must be a member of a minority group, defined by the U.S. Government as: Black (not of Hispanic origin), Hispanic (regardless of race), Asian or Pacific Islander, and American Indian or Alaskan Native. Extra consideration is given to members of the Special Libraries Association and to persons who have worked in and for special libraries, but the scholarships are not restricted to these persons. Preference is given to those who display an aptitude for and interest in special library work.

    Kathern F. Gruber Scholarship Program
    Since the early '80s, BVA has offered spouses and dependent children of blinded veterans a chance to continue their education through the Kathern F. Gruber Scholarship Program.

The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Scholarship Foundation (CFSF) is to provide an opportunity for young adults with CF to further their education at a college or vocational school.
