Academic Common Market

The Academic Common Market, a program of the Southern Regional Education Board, is an interstate agreement among southern states for sharing academic programs. Participating states enable their residents who qualify for admission to enroll in specific on-campus and online graduate programs in other states without having to pay out-of-state tuition. Arrangements traditionally are limited to programs not offered by the public institutions within the student's state of residence. In short, students who obtain ACM certification pay tuition at FSU's in-state rate.

Participating states are: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia. [Note: Only some of these states have authorized our program(s) for ACM certification. Refer to the links below to identify which states do authorize our programs(s).]

The Academic Common Market was originally designed only for on-campus programs, but with the growth and development of distance learning alternatives, ACM/Electronic Campus Initiative was instituted, combining the tuition benefits of the Academic Common Market with the distance learning capacity of the Electronic Campus. This initiative makes selected online programs available at in-state tuition through distance learning.

Applying for ACM Certification

Your state of residence must certify your eligibility to enroll as an Academic Common Market student. To qualify, you must be admitted to the appropriate degree program by the Office of Admissions, and the ACM letter of certification must be received in the FSU Registrar's Office before the first day of classes for the effective term.

The Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) website has links to each member state participating in the Academic Common Market. As you prepare to apply to FSU and to our School's graduate programs, go to the website to identify the ACM coordinator in your state of residence. Contact that office for information on your eligibility and the ACM certification process.
