Course Descriptions: Doctoral

LIS 6205 Issues in Information Behavior (3)
Prepares students to do research that focuses on an aspect of information behavior through the examination of the art of discovering issues in Information Behavior. Introduction of a range of techniques applied to the analysis of information behavior, with an emphasis on ethnographic methodologies.

LIS 6269 Seminar in Information Science (3)
Developments in Information Science and technology including content analysis, bibliometrics, management information systems and telecommunications networks. Stresses research methodologies in these areas.

LIS 6278 Issues in Theory Development (3)
Analyze historical and social factors associated with theory construction; utilize conceptual tools to develop theories; increase understanding of ways to critique theories; engage in the exploration of epistemological issues through the creation of a theory of the student's choice.

LIS 6279 Research Methods (3)
Data collection, analysis, and interpretation; preparation of designs for conducting individual research in librarianship.

LIS 6289 Seminar in Education for Information Studies (3)
Current programs and future development; analysis and evaluation of curricula, courses, and teaching methods for library science.

LIS 6419 Research Methods and Topics in Information Policy (3)
Current problems in library and information center management; an examination of library and information center planning, organization, personnel, control, finance, and evaluation functions.

LIS 6662 Seminar in Information Policy (3)
Identifies selected issues related to government information policies, and provides an opportunity for students to analyze those issues and consider policy alternatives, by which greater access to and use of state and federal information can be realized.

LIS 6759 Seminar in Intellectual Access (3)
Examines selected aspects of intellectual access. Topics vary according to student and instructor interests. As an example, a recent topic was the information behaviors of sorting and classifying and their relationships to knowledge structures and information systems (technical, physical, and conceptual).

LIS 6909 Directed Individual Study (1-6)
(S/U grade only.)

LIS 6916r Problems and Studies in Librarianship/Information Studies (1-6)
Directed and supervised detailed investigation of selected problems, issues, and trends in the various areas of librarianship/information studies, including cataloging and classification; work with the disadvantaged; children and youth services; academic, public, school, and special libraries; administration; information science. It is anticipated that each offering will be different because of currency and, thus, the changing nature of the subject matter. May be repeated to a maximum of six (6) semester hours.

LIS 6911 Research Collaboration(3)
All students seeking the doctoral degree, must register for a minimum of two semesters of research practicum (total of 6 credits; 3 each semester). During these practica students engage in and support research under the guidance of faculty.
