Getting Started: New Faculty Checklist

1). Get your FSU Card
The FSU Card is the official ID for The Florida State University, and is a required first step before you can set up email accounts or access many university services. Visit the official FSU Card website for all the details.

2). Activate your FSUID
Follow the instructions for identifying yourself and set up a password. It may take up to 4 hours before your FSUID is activated. Have your FSU Card and Social Security number available. This action will create a “mailer” email account if you did not already have an account.

3). Get a admin email account
Contact Casey McLaughlin to get your official CI email activated. This will be your primary account at the College of Information.

4). Configure your email client
Instructions for configuring Entourage, Eudora, Netscape, and Outlook can be found here for both PC's and Macs. You may also wish to use WebMail, an online email interface used to access university email accounts.

5). Get on the list
The College of Information has several ListServes that allow faculty and staff to share ideas and communicate with one another. Contact Frank Hart to get on the list.

6). Get an FSU parking permit
Purchase a parking permit online (and answers to other parking questions)

7). Set up your voicemail
Configure and use the FSU voicemail system.

8). Complete New Employee Orientation (NEO) online
NEO is also available as an 8 hour face to face course. If you wish to attend the face to face course, you must complete the NEO registration form to sign up. Otherwise, you may click on the above link to complete the NEO online.

9). Sign up for Direct Deposit
University Policy requires employees to sign up for Direct Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT).

10). Schedule a tour at the Goldstein Library
Meet with our librarians at the Goldstein library. The tour will take about an hour and includes an overview of campus library resources with an emphasis on Goldstein, Goldstein services to faculty and an introduction (or update) to your research needs and information expectations. Contact Pamala Doffek to schedule a time.

11). Schedule a meeting with the Coordinator of Research
Bev Tranchand is our Coordinator of Research for the College of Information. She can assist you with finding funding sponsors, preparing and submitting proposals, implementing new awards, and support in the area of contracts and grants.

12). Make an appointment with the Dean to talk about Evaluations and Tenure. Please contact Elaine Howard for an appointment.
